When submitting your application, we require documentation verifying enrollment/completion of all areas of education. This includes Level I Diploma or transcript if applicable, as well as proof of Level II education completed.

Students may apply for the Theory Exam before the completion of their program. For students applying before graduation, a letter from your school confirming enrollment and course completion date is required along with your application. Your course completion date must be before the examination date. (Ask your program coordinator/instructor for an individualized letter).

The entry requirements to Canadian dental assisting educational programs are set by the educational institution and not the NDAEB. Please contact the school directly for specific entry requirements.

Should the NDAEB conclude that your dental assisting education does not include all mandatory skills listed above, to become eligible you will be required to complete voluntary formal education upgrading for the missing skill(s). Formal upgrading courses must be successfully completed prior to the exam sitting at a program whose graduates are eligible to write the NDAEB exam. Upon submitting your application, proof of completion or proof of enrollment (with start and expected completion date) must be provided.

NDAEB recommends attending a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) for labor mobility purposes. Education completed at non-accredited programs will not meet the licensure/certification requirements for most Canadian provinces; therefore, candidates should investigate the accreditation status of any dental assisting program they may choose to attend for voluntary formal education upgrading of the missing skill(s).

For a list of dental assisting education programs and their accreditation status, visit the NDAEB website here.

The NDAEB assumes no responsibility for candidates choosing to attend non-accredited dental assisting education programs which may not be acceptable to the provincial Dental Assisting Regulatory Authority (DARA) for licensure/registration purposes.

If you have questions regarding licensure/registration in your province, contact the DARA before enrolling in voluntary formal education upgrading.
